The Unseen Sunscreen: No More White Cast! Beware Acne-Prone Skin

Some days I like to go with a bare face, which for me means no make-up including not wearing my BB Cream. It’s important to still hydrate my skin and protect it from the sun.You gotta protect what protects your body!

It’s been a struggle finding a nice, refreshing sunscreen that doesn’t leave an annoying white cast.  I’ve been hearing a lot of fanfare about the SuperGoop! Unseen Sunscreen so I decided to give it a try. The sunscreen itself felt very smooth and light to apply, unlike the traditional gluey-like sunscreens I typically use. And of course, as advertised, the sunscreen was clear so I didn’t have to deal with annoying white residue on my face that typically leaves me looking like a ghost.

Not too long after; however, I noticed a few pimples forming. This happened to me before when I used one of Elf’s primers, which had a lot of silicone in its ingredients. The texture of the sunscreen definitely felt similar to a primer and it makes sense because silica is one of the main ingredients listed.

At $35-$40 a bottle, I do wish they would put more since the bottle is pretty small (1.7 oz/ 50 mL). Though I understand this is pretty “standard” in the beauty industry since this price point is mid-range and isn’t as expensive as say La Mer’s sunscreen.

Something I have also been pondering is whether or not there is a big difference between expensive and inexpensive sunscreens?  In terms of sun protection, the short answer is no.

If you’re looking for a sunscreen that just does its job in protecting your skin, then you can go with any of the brands you typically find in the pharmacy (provided the SPF is at the recommended level).

Personally, if I wanted to spend more I would go ahead and use my BB cream since the extra money that goes into finding a “cosmetically pleasing” sunscreen could go into a makeup product that is meant to be “cosmetically pleasing”.

But that’s just me! I may still continue my search for no-white-cast-residue-and-not-clog-poring sunscreen. To be continued!
